    FE were not exactly popular in the UK rough running engine and high fuel consumption. Instead of fixing the issues with FD that just made a car that was too big for the market, there was a huge gap between the Viva and the FD. The 3.3 lite Ventora claimed 133bhp the engine dated back to 1928 Chevy Stove Bolt 6.

    That’s the Lucas logo in the headlight glass. The 2,000cc FDs all had a 4 speed or 4 plus overdrive (VX4/90). I have the brochures for the FD and FE cars somewhere. My grandfather had a few. The upholstery has faded quite a bit, but it’s approaching 50 years old.

    Oooh how lovely. I love me an E30. I had a 316, (succumbed to terminal rust after a gallant 230,000 miles), two 320i’s (one part exchanged for the other which was almost immediately stolen) and a particularly lovely 325i (also stolen, though it bravely withstood a number of ham fisted theft attempts before finally being spirited away) before deciding I should perhaps try something else. The seats would collapse, they would rust like billy-o and they were an object of intense desire to my local recidivists. Despite this the love remains strong and an early chrome bumper like this is very much on the dream garage list, a 323i would be perfect. Thank you for this most excellent review of this glorious machine sir.

Let's hope the local recidivists don't get their hands on this one again...

    Welcome to Wales Mr Lloyd. I live in North Wales and driving on our roads has become chronic. Mark Dripford (now ex Labour Party First Minister) was responsible for doing it and it's cost us a fortune. These limits are even down country roads with no entrances accessing them. We have seen roads that were originally 50mph that have been reduced to 20 mph. Bus services have been ruined, some stops have been taken out. A lot of drivers have lost respect for these limits they are ignoring the limit and are driving closer to the old 30 limit. There are even signs being put up that say 20 is plenty which are hardly legible. Dripford has also halted all road building and improvements. We are now spending longer on the roads than ever, using more fuel than ever. I also think it dangerous as we have our eyes on the speedo all the time, it's tiring and it's stressfull. Why?......we all think he wants to get cars off the road and get us all on push bikes. I don't think many will be reverting back and this could well be a taste of the future for the rest of the British Isles if Keir Staliner gets in.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting День тому

      There are some lovely roads in North Wales! It is a shame that they seem to have made them less enjoyable. It's not really practical for many people to use public transport (which seems to have become worse) or cycle everywhere. The failure to build a relief road for the M4 is very perplexing to to me, as is, exactly how you have described it, having to watch the speedometer so carefully a lot of the time, and deal with tailgaters who don't want to obey the 20 mph, even if you do... I understand why they would not want to!

    • @levelcrossing150
      @levelcrossing150 День тому

      @@lloydvehicleconsulting Wales is lovely, you should try North Wales if ever you get the chance. The A55 trunk road is impressive and Snowdonia is beautiful. You raised a good point with tail gating, I've seen near accidents happen because of this. When the pace is so slow, you can end up driving closer to the car in front of you. If you do find yourself in that position, then you have to act super quick if someone makes an emergency stop, something you might normally associate with higher speeds. Even excess signage and road markings are getting beyond reason, when you are just trying to keep an eye on the road ahead. Then we have the addition of trying to avoid the potholes which still have not been fixed. It's a right mess.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting 7 годин тому

      Yes, I have used some of the A55 before. Been to Rhyl and Prestatyn a couple of times before too. Yes, someone driving right up behind you when you are trying to stick to 20 mph isn't very safe when there is about a six inch gap.

    I find driving at 20mph with a CVT extremely difficult. The gearbox is always positioned to want to go faster and it's very easy to exceed the limit.

      A lot of cars simply don't like driving at 20 mph for any extended period of time, it seems... If you in somewhere like Inner London, though, there is often no choice in the matter.

    I think it may have come from a previous Government safety advert - 'hit a kid at 20mph they have a 80% chance of surviving - hit them at 30mph and they have a 70% chance of dying'. I don't know whether that is true and accurate, but I do remember seeing the advert. Aren't they now reversing it all again? Costing even more money to put it back to where it was

      @@lloydvehicleconsulting You mentioned in your video that there weren't any cameras to enforce the 20mph limit. Pure speculation on my part this next bit - but could it be a bit of psychology? Hats off to Mazda for the adventurous styling on this later model but it's a step too far for me and seems a bit too contrived and cutesy.

    We had an FE Victor 2300SL as a family car in the mid seventies, which I took over in 1982, back then they were regarded as quite lively cars, my memory of them was that they were also good motorway cars as reported in Car magazine in 1977, I do wonder if the correct tyre size is fitted, as standard profile tyres are specified not ‘70 or ‘60 series as some people fit.

    I love these and they are IMHO a bit of a '90's "Jelly Mould" styling icon. They were very popular here in Australia, and I have seen quite a number of them with the rear spoiler as featured here. However, I have never seen the front bumper valance fog light wings like this one has before (they may have been an extremely rare dealer fit option? or just not available in our market). In fact, I still occasionally see one in use "in the wild", so popular were they. We got the canvas roof option in the previous generation model (marketed as "fun top") here, but I don't recall seeing it on a second gen car here. I hope to have one of these in my small fleet of classics post my retirement. Always enjoy your video's sir, and this was especially so given my fondness for the subject. Cheers!

      They were available with the canvas roof on the first generation 121s over here, but those are virtually non-existent now. These are also exceptionally rare in the UK. The Kia Pride was sold for nine years in this country, and so they tend to be more common. I drove one of those back in 2020, actually. The front bumper on this car was a rare option, we aren't entirely sure if it was a factory or dealership option.
